Shantanu Deshpande, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Bombay Shaving Company, a men's grooming brand, has expressed concern over India's quick commerce and commerce delivery sector.
He said that the practice of heating frozen and stale food in 2 minutes, decorating it and bringing it to the customers in 8 minutes is becoming the biggest epidemic in India. Shantanu Deshpande's post on Linkedin highlighting the problems of processed and substandard food served to customers through quick delivery has already garnered attention.
He said that quick delivery platforms should ensure quality food to the people as high consumption of processed foods with palm oil and sugar can lead to malnutrition and health problems for the people of India.
"This is a sign that India is going down the road of China and America to the trend of depleting health by eating Rs 49 pizza, Rs 20 energy drinks and Rs 30 burgers through our junk food addiction," Deshpande stated. He also alerted founders and investors to the problem.
