Reliance Retail has relaunched Shein app, one of the Chinese apps banned by India in 2020 following diplomatic tensions with Beijing. Reliance Retail has launched an app for leading Chinese fast fashion brand Shein
Shein is coming to India under strict conditions. The conditions include collecting all platform data locally, without access or ownership of the Shein brand, and fully complying with Indian laws.
In June 2020, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) banned SheIn along with over 50 other apps following the worsening relations with China. This included Chinese apps like TikTok, which were removed due to concerns over data security.
But today, almost three years after the ban in India, SheIn entered into a partnership with Reliance Retail in 2023. The licensing agreement ensured that ownership and control of the platform would continue to be with Reliance Retail Limited through its wholly-owned subsidiary.
Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, through its subsidiary Reliance Retail Limited, has formed a technical partnership with Shein's parent company, Rodjet Business Private Limited.
Founded in 2008, Shein is known for its budget-friendly prices and has also gained popularity for its stylish fashion for women and men. The Shein India fast fashion app, developed by Reliance Retail Limited, is available for Android and Apple users.
