Elon Musk congratulates PM Modi on election victory
"Congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his electoral victory, American tech billionaire Elon Musk said he is looking forward to his companies" "executing work" "in India."
Narendra Modi will be sworn in as India's prime minister on June 9 for the third consecutive term.
"Congratulations @narendramodi on the victory in the world's largest democratic election! My companies are looking forward to "exciting work" in India, "Musk said in a post on Excel.
The congratulatory message comes two months after the CEO of electric carmaker Tesla and microblogging platform X postponed his proposed visit to India due to "Tesla's very heavy obligations" in April.
In June last year, Musk had met Modi during the latter's visit to the US and stated that he planned to visit India in 2024, expressing confidence that Tesla would enter the Indian market soon.
His proposed visit had raised expectations that he would announce plans for electric carmaker Tesla to set up shop in India along with his Satcom venture Starlink.
It was expected that Musk would announce plans to set up Tesla's manufacturing unit in India, billions of dollars of investment would be made and a way would be found to sell Tesla electric cars in India as soon as possible.
Not just electric cars, Musk is also targeting the Indian market for his satellite internet business Starlink, which is awaiting regulatory approvals.
Musk had earlier demanded a reduction in import duties in India so that Tesla could sell cars in the country.
His plan to visit India in April comes close on the heels of the government announcing a new electric vehicle policy, which aims to provide import duty relief to companies setting up manufacturing units in the country by investing $500 million. This is to attract major global companies like Tesla.
