Till a year ago, Arjun Pillai held the pivotal role of Chief Data Officer at B2B database company Zoominfo. He has already founded and sold two startups, including Insent, which ZoomInfo bought in 2021.
“When you start a startup, you always have that bug,” says Arjun. Soon after the launch of ChatGPT, Arjun was all set to start his own company for the third time. Having run startups or worked in sales tech for over a decade, he was confident that generative AI could help make technology sales faster and more efficient. “I wasn't willing to wait. Decided to start the company," says Arjun
In August 2023, Arjun left Zoominfo and started DocketAI, a virtual sales engineer. On Thursday, the company announced it had raised a $15 million Series A round led by Mayfield and Foundation Capital.
While working at Zoominfo, technology sales experts learned that sales engineers were having to engage in many conversations that did not require their expertise. Most account executives ask them complex but common questions. “Having a sales engineer on every call is expensive, inefficient and time-consuming,” says Arjun
So Arjun set out on a mission to build an AI version of the sales engineer. DocketAI helps non-technical salespeople get quick answers to technical questions and receive assistance with drafting requests for proposals (RFPs) and other technical documents.
"DocketAI is taking the work out of sales engineers, freeing up their time to work on more interesting, complex and strategic enterprise deals," says Arjun.
But Docket's AI is different in that it learns from the actions of top sellers. Not only does it provide facts to buyers, Docket learns from top sellers and has the ability to measure best practices across the company.
Arjun claims that sales organizations using Docket increase productivity and gain rates. The company has been actively selling its product since earlier this year and is currently adding several new enterprise-level customers per month.
"Our smallest customer has 15 seats and our largest customer has 10,00 seats," Arjun said, adding that ZoomInfo and Demandbase are on that list.
