Which is the Best City for Starting a Startup: Delhi or Bengaluru?

Delhi and Bengaluru are two of India’s top cities for startups. But which of these is truly the best?

In a recent interview, Shantanu Deshpande, CEO of Bombay Shaving Company, stated that Delhi is “1,000 percent” better than Bengaluru for starting a business. Additionally, the CEO of a Gurugram-based startup also opined that Delhi is a better place for business than Bengaluru.

At various award events, Zomato’s CEO, Deepinder Goyal, expressed that having a base in Bengaluru is not necessary for startup success.

However, when asked by Metrolife, startups based in India’s Silicon Valley seemed to disagree. Savitha Reddy, founder of Language Station, said Bengaluru is the ideal location. “Easy access to investors and the abundance of incubation centers make it easier for startups to grow here,” she stated.

Vaishnav C., founder of MyDearPa, also believes Bengaluru is the best city for startups. “Bengaluru’s ecosystem provides unparalleled opportunities for networking and customer engagement,” he said, adding that people in Bengaluru are generally more open to trying new products and services compared to other cities.

Prashanth D.G., co-founder of Brewed Games, remarked that the Karnataka government has favorable policies for startups. Moreover, Bengaluru’s ecosystem offers proximity to venture capitalists and partnerships with large corporations like Google and Apple.

Initially, Ramesh had considered launching his company in Pune or Goa. However, after hearing positive feedback from his college seniors about the extensive startup ecosystem in Bengaluru, he decided to launch there instead, citing the city’s growth-oriented conditions.
