Many of us don't think of anything else if we have a government job. But Karsanbhai Patel is a great example of how great success can be achieved if you are willing to take risks even while working in a secure job.
He is the founder of Nirma, a company that makes personal care products. The company started with a loan of Rs 15,000 and grew to a revenue of Rs 23,000 crore.
Patel was born in a farmer's family in Rupnagar, Gujarat. After graduating in chemistry, he worked as a lab technician in a government hospital, but his desire to start something of his own did not allow him to settle there.
Patel's story teaches us how big the role of surveillance is for business. One thing to note about the 1969 Patel is that the price of washing powders released under various brands is quite high. He realized that people couldn't afford it.
Finding this market potential, Patel did not rest. Patel launched a detergent powder at a low price. Soap powder was initially made by Patel himself using simple ingredients. The product was launched under the brand name Nirma at a low price. The project was started with a loan of Rs 15,000. Initially, he sold nirma by going from house to house on his bicycle.
After that, a revolution took place in the country. Nirma has become the most affordable brand. It was priced at Rs. 13 per kg. The demand has increased rapidly. There is no Indian who does not hear Nirma today.
Patel later rented a small manufacturing unit to increase production. The business grew with a few employees. Today, Nirma is the leading company in the industry, employing about 18,000 people. Later, Nirma created a wide range of products, including makeup, soap and personal hygiene products. At present, the company's total revenue stands at Rs 23,000 crore.
