As part of its entry into the Indian electric vehicle market, Elon Musk's Tesla Inc. has started hiring in India. The company has listed 13 openings on its official website. These include roles such as vehicle service, sales, operations, and business support. All these vacancies are based in Mumbai. In addition, a customer engagement manager vacancy has also been posted on LinkedIn.
Tesla Inc. has not officially announced its exact plans to enter India. However, the move coincides with Elon Musk's meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the US.
In 2023, the company signed a five-year lease with Tablespace Technologies to lease a 5,850-square-foot office in Pune. Last year, media reports suggested that the company planned to open showrooms in New Delhi and Mumbai, with outlets measuring 3,000 to 5,000 square feet.
Tesla had previously looked to enter the Indian market but put off the move due to steep import duties. However, recent policy changes, including the reduction of the basic customs duty on luxury electric vehicles priced above $40,000 from 110% to 70%, have made India a more attractive destination for automakers.
