Google to launch 'AI Mode' search in India

To strengthen its presence in India's fast-growing AI space, Google has launched its AI Mode in the country. The new feature, built on Gemini 2.5, enables users to ask long and complex questions and supports voice and photo-based search.

Initially launched as an experiment in the US and showcased at Google I/O 2025, AI Mode is now being rolled out in India as an experimental feature through Search Labs, available in English. Google said the rollout aims to gather user feedback and improve the feature for the Indian market.

The launch is part of Google's broader push into India's AI ecosystem. The company actively supports Indian AI startups through cloud credits, accelerator programs, and mentorship. Notably, 20 Indian startups have been selected for the first cohort of Google's 'AI First' accelerator, and the company has promised to make significant investments in the sector.

Google is expanding its presence in India, with plans to set up a new office in Bengaluru and continuing to hire for AI and product roles.
