Uber Bike service expanded to 100 new cities

Leading ride-sharing company Uber has expanded its two-wheeler taxi service 'Uber Bike' to 100 new cities in India. With this, the service will be available in cities including Jammu, Tirunelveli, Silchar and Jamnagar across 18 states and one union territory. Uber, which is currently present in over 220 Indian cities, aims to expand its operations to smaller cities and strengthen its position in the country's two-wheeler travel market.

Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has urged various states to promote bike taxis by approving the Central Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines (2025). He said that such transport systems will help people travel at a lower cost and create large number of employment opportunities. While states like Goa and Uttar Pradesh have allowed bike taxis, states like Maharashtra and Karnataka are yet to fully allow it.

Uber's move comes amid stiff competition from market leader Rapido in the sector. The company had recently invested Rs 2,921 crore in its India operations. The new expansion announcement comes after Uber India head Prabhjeet Singh stepped down; Uber India is currently being led by Rishant Ghosh.
