Amazon is reportedly planning to lay off 800 to 1,000 corporate employees in India as part of a global plan to cut 14,000 jobs. The layoffs will affect teams in finance, marketing, HR and technology, mainly those involved in Amazon's global operations.
The company is using AI and automation to cut costs and improve efficiency. This is part of Amazon's broader effort to control costs and simplify its structure. Similar layoffs were made in India in 2018 and 2023.
Despite cutting losses across its Indian business units, Amazon continues to spend heavily on its new Quick Commerce initiative, which is now operating in several major cities. It has also moved its India headquarters in Bengaluru to another location to further save costs.
