Blinkit, the quick commerce arm of Eternal, has removed the “10-minute delivery” claim from its platform after the Union Labour Ministry raised concerns about the safety and working conditions of delivery workers. The app’s tagline now reads “10,000+ products delivered to your doorstep.”
The change follows a meeting between the Labour Ministry and senior leaders of Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy and Zomato. The companies were asked to stop using “10-minute delivery” claims due to pressure on gig workers. Labour Minister Mansukh Mandavya has reportedly asked companies to avoid strict delivery deadlines that put delivery partners at risk.
The move comes amid growing scrutiny of Quick Commerce, following a nationwide gig worker strike in December over safety and pay issues. In the winter session of Parliament, Raghav Chadha called for a ban on 10-minute deliveries and stricter rules, saying ultra-fast delivery targets often lead to unsafe working conditions.
