Since its launch in May 2023, the ChatGPT app for iOS and Android has grossed $2B globally, far more than competitors like Cloud, Copilot, and Grok. In 2025 alone, the app grossed $1.35B, a huge jump from the $174M it grossed in the same period last year. On average, it now grosses about $193M per month, up from just $25M last year.
It also leads in app downloads with 690M installs worldwide, while Grok has only garnered 39.5M downloads. So far in 2025, ChatGPT has been downloaded 318M times, nearly three times more than the same period last year. India accounts for 13.7% of the downloads, followed by the US at 10.3%.
In terms of cost per user, ChatGPT earns approximately $2.91 per download globally, which is higher than Grok and Copilot. This shows how strongly ChatGPT is leading the mobile AI market compared to its competitors.
