Chinese medical technology startup Sainai AI has launched the world’s first clinic with an artificial intelligence (AI) doctor. AI will diagnose and treat patients. The clinic, located in Saudi Arabia’s eastern Al-Ahsa region, began testing in April in partnership with Al-Moosa Health Group.
At the clinic, patients talk to an AI “doctor” named Dr. Hua via a tablet. With human assistance, he asks follow-up questions, studies medical images and data, and then provides a treatment plan. A human doctor reviews and signs off on the plan.
Sainai AI says the technology had an error rate of less than 0.3% during testing. “Previously, AI only helped doctors, but now it can directly diagnose and treat patients,” said CEO Zhang Zhaodian.
So far, only a few dozen people have used the service, which is currently free. There are still human doctors nearby during the trial. All data collected will be sent to Saudi health authorities for approval, and the company hopes to receive approval within 18 months.
