D2C Dinnerware is a startup that claims its USP lies in its health conscious products. Even though it currently has more than 71 SKs, it has yet to raise funds from external investors.
Bollywood star Neha Dhupia has acquired equity stake in D2C dinnerware brand Black Carrot.
As part of the deal, Dhupia has also been roped in as the startup's brand ambassador and will promote the brand, Black Carrot said in a statement. However, the startup has not yet disclosed the amount of stake acquired by Neha Dhupia. Speaking to Inc42, Black Carrot co-founder Yadupathi Gupta said the actor acquired the stake in exchange for a brand partnership agreement signed with the startup.

“Black Carrot is a promising startup backed by a unique product offering and passionate founders. Their dinnerware is healthy and eco-friendly, while remaining stylish and elegant,” Dhupia said of her investment.
In a joint statement, co-founders Yadupathi and Vishal said, “At Black Carrot, we believe in… being mindful of how we eat. After all, what's the point of eating organic, pesticide-free food if dinnerware negates our efforts to be healthy? This belief is the driving force behind our complete line of dinnerware designed for the health-conscious consumer.”
The startup claims that its unique selling proposition (USP) lies in its health-conscious products. It claims its cutlery is made from FDA-approved 304-grade stainless steel, while its drinking glasses are lead-free.
The bootstrapped startup competes with legacy brands like Boros and IKEA along with Nestasia and Pepperfry.
Dhupia's investment comes at a time when Bollywood stars are trying to invest in Indian startups. Earlier this year, audio tech giant Bot received an undisclosed amount from actor Ranveer Singh. In December last year, he joined as the new co-owner of Bold Care, a D2C sexual health and wellness brand.
In 2023, actor Sunil Shetty invested in multiple Indian startups including Vayu, Classroom, Pro Pancha League and Regrip. On the other hand, Shilpa Shetty Kundra also backed two startups last year, WickedGood and Kisan Connect, while Sanjay Dutt backed Alcovev startup Cartel & Bros and sneaker marketplace Downtown in 2023.
