Electric vehicle sales surge in February

Sales of electric passenger vehicles (cars) in India in February saw a huge jump of 44 percent over the previous year. A total of 13,733 vehicles were sold last month. While Tata Motors topped the market with 5,568 vehicles sold, Mahindra also saw a big jump in sales. Meanwhile, MG Motors saw a slight decline in sales.

The electric two-wheeler market has also seen a similar big jump. 1,11,709 two-wheelers were sold in February alone, with a growth of 46 percent. The main reason for this change is that consumers are now more interested in buying vehicles that are safer, have better mileage (range) and have new technologies.

TVS is the market leader in two-wheeler sales with a growth of 67 percent. Ather Energy and Hero MotoCorp, which have focused on new models with more features, also posted strong sales. However, the market leader Ola Electric saw a steep decline of 54 percent in sales during the period.
