According to a new study by Adecco India, the electric vehicle (EV) sector is expected to create 30 to 40 million new jobs by 2030. The demand for skilled people in fields like engineering, power systems, and battery technology is expected to grow by 15-20% every year. Of the new jobs created, 10-15% are expected to be direct jobs and 85-90% are expected to be indirect jobs.

While the opportunities are currently concentrated in traditional auto manufacturing hubs like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Karnataka, this growth will rapidly spread to Tier II and Tier III cities in the coming years. 70% of the new job creation will come from these new industrial corridors. This shift, supported by the ‘Make in India’ initiative, will help significantly reduce the country’s dependence on crude oil and ensure energy security.

Apart from vehicle manufacturing, the sectors that will generate the most jobs in the coming decade are spare parts manufacturing, battery recycling and EV infrastructure development. 40-45 percent of the total hiring will be through small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and startups that manufacture vehicle components. In addition, the report also states that the rapidly growing battery recycling market and infrastructure development, including charging, will create a large number of new jobs in the coming years.
