From May 16, food delivery platform Zomato will start charging rain surge fee from its Gold members. The fee was earlier waived as part of the Gold membership benefits that it has over 20 lakh users. Zomato said the fee will help pay a fair amount to its 4.4 lakh delivery partners who work in harsh weather conditions like rain.

Rain fee usually ranges from ₹10 to ₹15, which is paid by regular customers. For Gold members, Zomato had waived this fee. However, due to a slowdown in food delivery orders and the push for higher profits, the company is now changing this policy.

Zomato's parent company Eternal recently reported sluggish growth in its food delivery business due to weak demand in cities, a shortage of available delivery partners and the rise of Quick Commerce. The company said it is planning new plans to grow the business without affecting profits.
