Axis Bank has launched a credit card in India, called Flex by Google Pay, on the RuPay network, in partnership with Google Pay. The card is fully integrated with the Google Pay app, allowing users to apply digitally, track spending, earn rewards, and choose repayment options.
India is a key market for Google Pay, but UPI payments generate limited revenue, prompting the platform to expand into consumer credit. With Flex, Google Pay is targeting India’s youth and first-time credit users.
The launch comes amid growing competition, as rivals such as PhonePe and CRED have launched co-branded credit cards with major banks. Axis Bank is the first issuing partner, and Google Pay plans to add more banking partners in the future.
