Rental car platform Zoomcar has been hit by a cyberattack, with personal information including names, phone numbers, addresses and car registration details of around 8.4 million users being exposed. However, the company said on June 9 that it found no signs of financial information or passwords being compromised. The attack came to light after employees received messages from a hacker.
Zoomcar, which operates in 99 Indian cities, said it had notified authorities and strengthened its cybersecurity systems. However, it has not yet confirmed whether users were notified of the breach.
The incident adds to Zoomcar's ongoing financial woes. The company, which listed on the Nasdaq in December 2023, has been facing heavy losses, the ouster of its founders and legal issues. Its losses in the December quarter narrowed to $7.9 million, but revenue remained flat at $2.5 million. With negative working capital of $40.8 million, Zoomcar warned that it would not survive without more funding.
