The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched four new UPI products to make payments easier and smarter. UPI Reserve Pay allows users to lock a portion of their credit limit or authorized credit line for future UPI payments, facilitating greater control and credit-based transactions. UPI Help is an AI-powered support system that helps users track transactions, raise complaints and manage mandates, while making it easier for banks to handle complaints.
IoT payments using UPI allow smart devices like watches, connected cars and refrigerators to make payments without a phone. Users can pay for services like fuel, EV charging or other essential items directly through these devices. Banking Connect simplifies online payments by linking all banks and payment gateways through a single platform, allowing direct payments to merchants without logging into multiple portals, and speeding up settlements and refunds.
NPCI also announced a pilot project for an agentic AI framework that will allow AI chatbots and agents to make payments for customers using voice or text commands, contextual triggers, and personalized routines. This is a step towards more intelligent and automated UPI transactions.
