OpenAI has announced that its low-cost ChatGPT Go plan will be free for one year for Indian users starting November 4, 2025. The offer will be available to new users and existing subscribers who sign up during the promotional period. This is part of OpenAI’s first DevDay exchange event in Bengaluru, which aims to help more people in India use advanced AI tools.
Launched in August 2025 at ₹399 per month, ChatGPT Go was first introduced as an India-only plan with access to the GPT-5 model. After seeing strong demand, OpenAI expanded the plan to 89 countries. The company said that the number of paid subscribers in India has doubled within a month of its launch.
OpenAI sees India as one of its most important markets, calling it ChatGPT’s second-largest user base. CEO Sam Altman said India will soon become the company's largest market due to its rapidly growing internet population, which is expected to exceed 1.2 billion users by 2030. OpenAI plans to set up a large data center in India and work with local partners to develop AI solutions tailored to the country.
