Paytm has introduced a new feature that allows non-resident Indians (NRIs) from 12 countries, including the US, UK, UAE and Singapore, to use their international mobile numbers for UPI transactions. The extension, which is being provided by NPCI, aims to connect Indians abroad with India’s fast-growing digital payments system.
NRIs can now link their NRE or NRO bank accounts with the Paytm app and make payments in India without a local SIM card. They can use it to send money to family or pay at shops, restaurants and online stores by scanning UPI QR codes.
Paytm said it will enable instant and low-cost transactions by eliminating the need for international payment gateways or currency conversion. The rollout is currently in beta and will be available to all eligible users soon.
