Tesla's entry into India has been slower than expected, with the company receiving only about 600 orders since sales began on July 15. The first batch of 350–500 cars will arrive from Shanghai in September, with deliveries starting in Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Gurugram.
With future plans for Bengaluru, Tesla is working on expanding its charging infrastructure, including Supercharging stations in Gurugram and other stations in Mumbai. Tesla has also leased a large service and retail space in Gurugram to handle customer support and repairs.
Due to India's import duties, Tesla sells the Model Y RWD for ₹59.89 lakh and the Model Y Long Range RWD for ₹67.89 lakh, which is significantly higher than the US price. This makes it face stiff competition from Mercedes-Benz and BMW. It also faces the challenge of building trust in the charging infrastructure.
