The government is planning to launch a new taxi service called Sahakar Taxi to ensure more income for ordinary drivers in India.
It will work in the same way as app-based taxi services like Ola and Uber. However, the drivers will benefit from this. Without middlemen, drivers will get money directly, which will increase their income. This will be a great relief to drivers.
The government's move comes amid allegations against big taxi companies like Ola and Uber. There have been complaints that these companies are charging customers more for looking at their phone (iPhone, Android). The CCPA, which works for the protection of consumers, has sent notices to these companies in this regard.
Both Ola and Uber have denied the allegations. She said that everyone is charged the same rate and the price is not changed based on the phone. However, the CBI is still investigating the matter.
The controversy started in December 2024 when pictures showing different fares on two phones for the same trip were circulated on social media
