TVS Motor has launched a new electric scooter, TVS Orbiter, priced at ₹99,900. The scooter features a 3.1 kWh battery, 158 km range and 34 litres of boot space. The company says this is part of its efforts to expand its electric vehicle range and accelerate the adoption of electric mobility in India.
According to Vahan Data, TVS led the electric two-wheeler market in August with 20,461 registrations, followed by Ather Energy with 14,723 registrations and Ola Electric with 14,488 registrations. TVS was the top seller in July as well, while Bajaj Auto's Chetak sales fell below 20,000.
Ather has been promoting its family scooter Rista and Ola has recently launched the S1 Pro Sport for around ₹1.5 lakh. Experts say the growth of India's electric vehicle market depends on reducing vehicle prices and improving charging infrastructure. The market is expected to reach $132 billion by 2030.
