NPCI's BHIM app surpassed Amazon Pay in UPI transactions in August 2025, processing 10 crore payments worth Rs 15,000 crore compared to Amazon Pay's 9.8 crore transactions worth Rs 10,800 crore. BHIM came in ninth in transaction volume, but outperformed some apps in value. The app was recently upgraded to BHIM 3.0 with new features like family mode, spend analytics, support for over 15 Indian languages, and also offered cashback offers to attract users.

PhonePe and Google Pay continued to dominate the UPI market with 915 crore and 706 crore transactions respectively, handling transactions worth Rs 12 lakh crore and Rs 8.83 lakh crore, though both saw a slight decline in market share. Paytm retained its third position with 140 crore transactions worth Rs 1.43 lakh crore, while other apps like Navi, Super.Money, CRED, and FarmApp maintained or slightly increased their shares.

Overall, UPI recorded 20.01 billion transactions in August, up 2.8% from July and 34% year-on-year, though the total value declined marginally to Rs 24.85 lakh crore. Meanwhile, UPI payments for online games have seen a sharp decline since the ban on real money gaming, declining 23% in volume and 26% in value compared to July.
