India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) recorded its highest ever monthly activity in December 2025, processing 21.63 billion transactions, a 29% year-on-year increase. In terms of value, transactions during the month stood at ₹27.97 lakh crore.

On an average, UPI handled around 698 million transactions per day, with a daily transaction value of ₹90,217 crore. Volumes rose from 20.47 billion in November, while transaction value increased from ₹26.32 lakh crore, making December the biggest month ever in terms of number of transactions.

The growth was driven by higher usage of digital payments for everyday expenses such as groceries, food, telecom and fuel. While app-wise data for December has not been released yet, figures for November show PhonePe maintaining the lead, Google Pay seeing a slight decline, Paytm holding the third spot, and smaller apps like BHIM gradually increasing their share.
