New reports show that there has been a remarkable increase of 19 percent in employment opportunities for women in India compared to the previous year. Apart from entry-level jobs, opportunities for women are rapidly expanding to higher positions and better-paying positions. Apart from big cities, employment opportunities for women have also increased significantly in tier-II cities like Kochi, Coimbatore and Jaipur.
While there has been a slight decline in areas like HR and customer service, which were traditionally dominated by women, women are increasingly entering new technology sectors. Women's representation has increased significantly in key areas like IT, data analytics, sales and marketing. This is an indication that more opportunities will be available to women in the technology sector in the future.
Despite such advancements in the workforce, major challenges such as the gender wage gap still persist. While men earn Rs 100, women still earn just Rs 73. In addition, reports also point out that women entrepreneurs who start their own businesses face severe discrimination and financial hardship in accessing funding.
