Zomato has increased its platform fee rate from Rs 12.50 to Rs 14.90. This is an increase of about 19.2 percent. The main reason behind this decision is the increase in fuel prices due to the Middle East conflict. While Swiggy currently charges Rs 14.99, third-ranked Magicpin has announced that it will not increase the rate for the time being and will continue at Rs 14.20.
Zomato's parent company Eternal is making great strides financially. The company's revenue in the third quarter grew by 64 percent to Rs 16,315 crore. Apart from Zomato, its divisions Blinkit and Hyperpure have also turned profitable. The total order value in the business-to-consumer (B2C) segment increased by 55 percent to Rs 25,732 crore compared to the previous year.
MagicPin is trying to keep its services affordable for customers despite the rising costs in the food delivery sector. However, the further rise in fuel prices may also affect delivery rates in the coming days. This increase in rates will make ordering food online more expensive for millions of consumers in the country.
