Apple is reportedly planning to start the initial manufacturing phase of the iPhone 17 base model in India, aiming to reduce its dependence on Chinese imports and expand iPhone production in India. According to The Information, Apple is collaborating with an Indian factory for these manufacturing activities.
This Indian unit will handle the process of transforming the iPhone 17 prototype into a mass-production model. This is the first time an Indian iPhone manufacturing unit is being engaged in such a role. Furthermore, the report indicates that the initial production of the standard iPhone 17 model is expected to begin in India in the second half of 2025.
The new iPhone variant is anticipated to bring significant improvements in processing power. The report also states that Apple began full-scale production of the latest iPhone 16 in India this September and has decided to increase its workforce there.
