There are few people who do not know that Titan watches are an Indian brand. But very few people know that Titan conquered the world from a village in Tamil Nadu. Founded in 1984 as a joint venture between Tata Industries and TIDCO (Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation), Titan began operations in 1987. Putting an end to the wait, Titan has introduced a different range of quartz watches. The company did not hesitate to promote the brand Titan. Today it is a brand that can be bought at a small price and given as a gift.
In the past, the only way to get a watch was through relatives who came from the Gulf or elsewhere. But the arrival of Titan created history. HMT Watches was the market leader in the wristwatch segment in the country. On December 23, 1987, Titan opened its first showroom at Safina Plaza in Bengaluru. Hundreds of people came to the showroom with press releases containing the Titan catalog. By 2018, Titan had opened 1000 showrooms across India. Titan is the most loved brand in India today, which has been maintaining quality for years, meeting the needs of all sections of people, while constantly moving forward in a world that is becoming more and more innovative every day.
As Titan's first CEO, Cersace Desai realised that quartz watches had a future beyond mechanical watches and designed fashionable watches that Indians had never seen. Exclusive brand outlets have ensured that they provide the best after-sales service. At that time, the company focused on keeping the brand premium by designing equivalents to international designs. At the same time, the company did not forget about ordinary customers. The company also introduced a cluster of five watches priced between Rs 350 and Rs 900. Titan has taken special care to include certain features in every watch along with keeping it top-notch.
The journey begins with a few villagers from Hosur, a small village in Tamil Nadu. Having worked with the Tata Group for nearly 20 years, Desai was tasked with setting up a wristwatch brand. Desai accepted Tata's proposal. The first factory was set up in a little-known area like Jamshedpur. In 1984, Titan moved to Tamil Nadu with the promise of providing employment with the help of the Tamil Nadu government. After three years of research, analysis, review, and best practice, watchmakers and the first batch are ready. At present, about 1,600 people are employed in Titan's five factories.
Desai chose a village to make the watch and the villagers as the workers to find the right talent. The research team visited schools and colleges. Ages 17 and older are welcome. A test was conducted for the selected candidates. Based on this, the number was reduced. Accommodation has been arranged for the workers. Today the standard of living of hundreds of people in Hosur village is very high and they have regular jobs. His children were well educated. Higher education.
At least some people will not forget the music in the advertising of Titan watches. When you listen to that music, you still remember the old days. The Titan ads were so heartwarming that there was not even a voice over. Particularly as part of the Joy of Gifting campaign. At the behest of Desai, who was interested in Western classical music, Suresh Malik gave birth to Titan's never-forgettable tune. The song was composed by Suresh Malik.
Titan's entire focus was on developing watches with new features every year. This has led to multi-brand retailing and collaboration with outlets. The company has launched new sub-brands like Fastrack, Sonata, Tanishq, Titan i Plus and Tanira. From making men's watches, Titan's focus shifted to finding new designs for women. Apart from this, other sub-brands include coloured soup watches for kids, water-resistant Titan Octane watches, and Swiss-made brand Xylis, which Titan has bought. The company has also ventured into digital watches with the Sonata Stride smartwatch. Titan currently produces about 16.692 million units annually.
