Spiritual tech startup MyTirth India announced on Monday that it is shutting down operations due to the financial crisis. This news comes as a surprise as spiritual technology has emerged as one of the most in-demand fields.
In the last 15 months, more than a dozen start-ups in the spiritual technology sector have raised more than $40 million.
MyTirthIndia is a pilgrimage and darshan site that enables tours to prominent religious centres in India by bringing together temples, priests, hotels, travel agents, astrologers, Ayurveda and Yoga on one platform.

"We have tried to create as many jobs as possible in cities, villages and towns, encouraging people to rediscover their culture, tradition and heritage. But it is quite sad that we had to shut down our office due to lack of funds following the unfortunate demise of our major shareholder and advisor, "said Indranil Dasgupta, Co-founder and CEO, MyTirth India.

According to MyTirthIndia, around $1 million was raised from the late Subrata Roy, who was the main shareholder and advisor of the company. Roy was the founder and managing director of Sahara India Pariwar. Currently, singer Anup Jalota is the chief mentor of MyTirthIndia.

Founded in 2019, it has launched spiritual membership programmes for travellers, spiritual showrooms in cities such as Lucknow, Varanasi, Kolkata and Noida, and marketing of spiritual products such as agarbatti, dhoop, puja samagri, havan samagri and idol. According to industry reports, the Indian travel industry accounts for 10% of the country's GDP. Of this, spiritual tourism contributes 65% to 70% of the total volume.

According to data compiled by TheKredible, Astro and Spiritual Tech startups have raised more than $40 million in the last 15 months. Among the notable names, Ustav App, Devdham, Insta Astro, Astro Talk, Vama and Meluha have also raised decent funding during this period.
