Coratia Technologies with robots for underwater inspections

Coratia Technologies is a Rourkela-based startup that builds robots for use in underwater spaces where it is difficult and dangerous for humans to go directly to conduct inspections. The company was started in 2021 by NIT Rourkela alumni Debendra Pradhan and Vishwajit Swain. These robots help in performing underwater tasks faster and safer instead of expert divers.

The company mainly develops two types of underwater robots (remotely operated and autonomous) that include cameras, sonar, and AI technology. This technology helps in safely inspecting bridges, dams, ships, undersea internet cables, and pipelines without causing any damage. These can collect accurate information underwater in dark and low-visibility waters.

The startup, which currently provides services to major companies like Indian Railways and Tata Steel, recently bagged a huge contract worth Rs 66 crore from the Indian Navy. It has also raised Rs 22 crore in funding from various investors. The company's main goal is to make India more self-sufficient in underwater robotics, reducing its dependence on foreign countries for defense and other maritime-related needs.
