Tech giant Google plans to invest $15 billion (about Rs 1.3 lakh crore) over five years to build India's first AI data centre in Visakhapatnam. The centre will be the largest Google AI hub outside the US and part of its global AI network across 12 countries.
The data centre will have a capacity of 1 GW and will serve as a landing point for Google's high-capacity submarine cables, improving internet connectivity along with existing landings in Mumbai and Chennai. It will combine AI infrastructure, large-scale energy sources and an expanded fibre-optic network.
It will support Google's AI-driven consumer products and help Indian businesses, entrepreneurs and institutions with digital services. The project will be developed in collaboration with AdaniConneX and Airtel, using technology from Google's research and development centers in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune.
