With the aim of reducing dependence on foreign countries in defense technology, Thrissur-based startup 'Igon Mobility' has successfully developed a sophisticated indigenous weapon testing system for the Indian Navy. The company, in partnership with STC Engineering, has developed a 'Precision Measurement Instrument' to measure the accuracy of the Navy's active weapon systems, completely using indigenous technology. This state-of-the-art device, which is completely new in the field of defense industry, has been officially certified by the Naval Armament Inspectorate (NAI), Kochi, after quality tests. This is the first time in India that a private small startup has successfully developed this technology.

This startup began with the ideas of a group of young engineering students who came together through the IEDC network in 2017. Then, officially launched in 2022, iGon Mobility initially focused on manufacturing electric scooters and autonomous delivery robots. iGon Mobility has made this historic achievement through a challenging journey, overcoming fierce competition and crises from major global companies in the defense technology sector. The company’s technical expertise gained through building and providing advanced prototypes and hardware projects for other leading startups and researchers has empowered it to undertake this complex mission in the defense sector.

The company is not ready to release more technical details of the device due to the prevailing defense sector security standards and NDA agreements. With the official approval of the Navy, huge market opportunities have opened up for this Malayali startup in the defense technology sector. Having survived fierce competition from major defense technology companies, Igon Mobility, which has grown from a small lab in Thrissur to become a part of the Indian defense establishment, is currently researching to develop the next generation of cutting-edge systems for the Navy.
