World-renowned coffee chain Starbucks has decided to establish its first Global Capability Center (GCC) in India in Chennai. The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government for this purpose. This new center is expected to create around 800 new jobs.

The availability of a skilled workforce and low employee attrition rates in Tamil Nadu were key factors that prompted the company to choose Chennai. This new global technology center will operate independently of the retail business venture it runs in partnership with Tata Consumer Products.

India is currently emerging as a major global hub for such centers. Strengthening the country's technology sector, numerous foreign companies are now establishing their global offices in India.
