Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) subsidiary HyperVault and its partners are investing Rs 70,000 crore to build a 1 gigawatt (1 GW) artificial intelligence (AI) data centre in Hyderabad. TCS has acquired 264 acres of land for this and is preparing India's largest AI infrastructure campus in an eco-friendly manner. Once the project is completed, thousands of direct and indirect jobs will be created in the area.
TCS formed HyperVault last year with the aim of building AI data centres. TCS had partnered with global investor TPG to develop the subsidiary and announced an initial investment of Rs 18,000 crore. In addition, HyperVault is also collaborating with leading AI company OpenAI to set up its infrastructure in India.
TCS's new move is also a clear sign that large Indian companies are stepping into the field of developing AI infrastructure locally. HCL Tech, L&T, and Adani Group have already announced partnerships to build their own AI data centers. In addition, Reliance is also planning to invest Rs 10 lakh crore in the AI sector in the coming years and set up an AI data center in Gujarat.
