After a strong performance in March, the electric two-wheeler (E2W) market in India registered a decline of 20 per cent in April. Registrations fell to 1.4 lakh units in April from 1.92 lakh units in March. However, these figures are up more than 50 per cent when compared to April last year. And the total vehicle sales for the current fiscal have crossed 1.4 lakh.
Despite this general downturn, Ola Electric has been a strong performer in the market. Ola’s vehicle registrations increased by 20 per cent in April and its market share has increased to 8 per cent. The company has achieved this feat thanks to its new indigenously developed battery technology, new vehicle models and attractive discounts.
Meanwhile, market leaders TVS, Bajaj, Ather and Hero MotoCorp could not replicate their March success. All of them saw a significant decline in sales compared to the previous month. Similarly, most other electric vehicle startups, except Ultraviolette, such as Pure EV and Simple Energy, failed to make significant gains in the market in April.
