Over 55,000 new startups registered in India in FY26

According to the latest official figures, over 55,000 new startups were registered in India in FY26. With this, the total number of registered startups in the country crossed 2.23 lakh. These ventures, spread across various sectors including technology, healthcare, education and agriculture, have so far created over 23.36 lakh jobs. Of these, 48 per cent (1.07 lakh) startups have at least one woman director or partner, indicating the rise of women in the sector.

While the growth of startups is evident in all states and union territories of the country, states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Gujarat are at the forefront. The government is providing good financial support to this sector through various schemes like Fund of Funds (FFS) and Seed Fund. The FFS has so far disbursed Rs 7,000 crore to over 135 AIFs, enabling investments of Rs 26,900 crore in over 1,420 startups. In addition, the government has also launched the Rs 10,000 crore ‘Startup India Fund of Funds 2.0’ scheme.

The growth of startups has also led to a significant increase in the number of patent applications. In FY26, startups filed a total of over 19,400 patents, including 4,480 applications. They have also made great strides in offering products and services through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM). Startups have already secured orders worth over Rs 19,000 crore through this platform.
