Amazon to invest Rs 2,800 crore in India

Amazon has announced a fresh investment of Rs 2,800 crore (about $300 million) to expand its distribution network in India and ensure faster service to customers. The amount, which is aimed at expanding the service to smaller cities, will be used primarily to expand Amazon's quick commerce service 'Amazon Now'. Currently available in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru, the service will be expanded to new cities. This is part of Amazon's larger plan to invest $35 billion in India by 2030.

Amazon has also announced several schemes to ensure the safety and well-being of its delivery workers and other employees. These include 'Project Ashray', which will provide air-conditioned rest areas for delivery workers, improved health and accident insurance coverage, and 'Prapatinidhi Scholarship', which will provide educational assistance to the children of workers. In addition, the company will expand health plans and free medical camps for truck drivers across the country.

Amazon will also use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies to make deliveries safer and more efficient. This will help drivers issue speeding warnings and find the best routes. The company is performing well financially; Amazon Seller Services India reported a revenue of Rs 30,139 crore in FY2025, while the company's loss narrowed to Rs 374 crore.
